Extensive programme announced for Futuresource

An extensive programme of expert speakers, international case studies and up to the minute research is to be the focus of the Information Hub, one of the key features of the Futuresource 2009 conference and exhibition, Europe's leading sustainability event at London ExCeL in June.

The Information Hub, which is sponsored by WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme), the Environment Agency, compliance specialist Valpak and waste management firm Viridor, consists of three days of free seminars from June 9-11 covering everything from finding funding for waste projects through to making quality products from waste.

Delegates to the exhibition visiting the Hub will be able to learn from industry experts and debate key issues surrounding the industry. Speakers such as WRAP's Steve Waite will discuss improving MRF material quality, Richard Hudson of Valpak will look at the responsible export of secondary raw materials, whilst Victor Perez-Mares of Viridor will present case studies from Europe and Mexico on planning for waste management infrastructure.

Organised by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) – which represents professionals in the waste sector – and the Environmental Services Association (ESA), the trade body for waste management companies, Futuresource 2009 will be a major UK and European showcase for the latest products and services that the sustainable waste, recycling and resource management sector has to offer.

CIWM chief executive Steve Lee said: “This is an unrivalled opportunity for visitors the get the very latest thinking on key issues from leading industry experts. We have brought together some great speakers to discuss issues that are pertinent and timely and will ensure that people leave with plenty to think about.”

In addition to the Information Hub, Futuresource will also feature a Communications Hub that will provide a discussion forum where visitors can hear short presentations from national and trade journalists and discuss how the industry can engage better with the press. Key speakers at the Communications Hub include David Shukman, BBC News environment and science correspondent, Lucy Siegle environment correspondent of the Observer and David Parkin editor of leading regional business news web site thebusinessdesk.com.

There will also be a Transport Hub, supported by the Freight Transport Association and looking at plant and vehicle issues.

The exhibition runs alongside letsrecycle.com's Recycling and Waste Forum 2009, a dynamic two-day event that combines topical seminars and workshops with a themed quiz evening – the  Pub Quiz 2009, sponsored by Abitibi Bowater. The seminar programme includes a WEEE & Batteries seminar and an organics seminar on June 10.
