Exel launches wider producer responsibility service

Logistics firm Exel has re-shaped its Packaging Datastore business into a broader-ranging provider of environmental compliance services.

While not a full packaging waste compliance scheme, the Packaging Datastore had been set up to help obligated packaging producers with their recovery and recycling responsibilities under the producer responsibility regulations.

”This broadening environmental portfolio dovetails perfectly with Exel's other core services. “
– Paul James, Environmental Compliance Solutions

New regulations bringing in Europe's WEEE Directive are expected to see producer responsibility extended to waste electronics from June 2006, which has led Exel to form the broader compliance service.

Exel has now said it is launching Environmental Compliance Solutions, which will encompass the Packaging Datastore and Exel's Packaging Management Group as well as moving into the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) field.

Legislation
Paul James, general manager of the new Environmental Compliance Solutions, said Exel had been looking to broaden its services over the last few years to help companies deal with new legislation like the WEEE Directive and the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive.

Mr James said: “By bringing together a range of existing services with new capabilities, Exel is able to offer both national and European solutions across the compliance arena. This broadening environmental portfolio dovetails perfectly with Exel's other core services and solutions which together will deliver greater value to businesses across the supply chain.”
