Called “Applying Compost – Benefits and Needs” the event is due to be held at Palais Charlemagne, Salle 4, Rue de la Loi, 170, Brussels, Belgium (to be confirmed) on November 22-23 2001.
The event is organsied by The Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission and the Ministry for Agriculture & Forestry, Environment & Water Management of the Republic of Austria. The seminar will present research on “Evaluation of Sustainable Beneficial Effects of Compost on Soil Fertility and Soil Productivity” carried out by the study group composed by DI Florian Amlinger (of Austria), Dr. Peter Dreher, Karlheinz Weinfurtner (from Germany) and Professor Stephen Northcliff (Department of Soil Science, University of Reading, UK).
The Commission says that such a seminar with invited international experts is intended to present the outcome of the literature research and to share it with the results of the latest findings by scientific research work.
A spokesman said: “Furthermore, the hypothesis is to discuss with colleagues not only from the scientific world (plant production, soil science etc) but also with experts from agricultural organisations and official bodies and authorities on national and EU level of the concerned areas (soil protection, water conservation, agriculture).
The organisers would like the event to attract a broad representation of different stakeholders (such as waste managers, researchers, experts from the private and public sector, regulators, consumers, farmers, environmental NGOs and industry).
