The trade fair, held once every three years, is taking place from September 23-27, 2003 in the German city of Cologne. Over 35 countries will be represented amongst the exhibitors with non-German businesses making up over 20% of the fair. However, of the 1,000 exhibitors coming to this year's fair only nine are British.

As well as exhibits put on by individual companies and organisations at the trade fair, group exhibits are also planned for several countries including Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which will allow firms to expand their export markets while reducing costs.
The fair is being organised by Koelnmesse, the exhibition centre, the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the German Association for the Waste Disposal Industry (BDE). Hanskarl Willms, the managing director of Deutsche Entsorga, a subsidiary of BDE, said: “We invite people from all over the world to come and visit Entsorga and form a concrete picture for themselves of the kind of progress that is taking place in the field of environmental technology.
“This September, Entsorga in Cologne will provide a perfect forum for the industry to compare notes, debate pressing issues, meet the specialists, and make important contacts with suppliers and contractors.”
The international fair will include symposiums and seminars, conferences, public congresses, discussions and a job exchange.
At the fair in 2000, there were 53,000 visitors from 90 countries, from both the industrialised world and developing nations, although only 500 visitors came from the UK. According to Entsorga, almost 90% of visitors participated in some kind of business decision while at the fair.
