Environment Agency launches south west recycling guide

The Environment Agency has taken action to divert waste from landfill by launching a guide to make it easier for businesses in the south west to recycle.

The south west has only six years of landfill space left and the Agency's guide has been produced to help businesses and people in the region find ways of recycling their waste.

The Agency hopes that the booklet will make life easier for businesses across the region who want to recycle but do not know where to turn to for advice.

The 60-page directory is a database of firms and organisations in the south west that recycle and re-use any kind of waste material. The guide includes the names and contact details of firms that recycle different types of materials including items that are more difficult to recycle such as plastics, chemicals and batteries.

Contact details of the local authorities, community and charity services and other organisations involved in recycling are also listed.

Dr Richard Cresswell, Environment Agency’s regional director, said: “With only six years of landfill space left in the south west it is vital that we all find ways to cut down on what we currently just throw away.

“We know that people in the south west are very keen to cut down on what ends up in landfill but finding out how best to recycle unwanted items can often be the biggest stumbling block. This directory gives everyone who uses it the chance to find out who handles waste goods and how to get in touch with them.”
