Judges

This year's judging panel is lead by Chris Davey, WRAP's local authority relations manager.
It also includes Barbara Herridge, North London Waste Authority; Kamila Horak, senior development manager at DHL Exel Supply Chain; Mark Shelton, Cambridgeshire County Council's waste policy manager; David Symmers, chief executive of the
Independent Waste Paper Processors Association; Matthew Thomson, chief executive of the London Community Recycling Network; Mike Walker, Environmental Services Association's policy director and letsrecycle.com's editor Steve Eminton.

Mr Eminton said: “The awards have built year on year in the three years since they were launched, both in terms of the quantity and quality of entries received.”

“They serve as a wonderful showcase of all the good work going on in the recycling and waste management sector,” he added.

Awards 2006

Last year's awards attracted more than 170 entries. The winners included a train operator which achieved a 50% recycling rate on board its trains; a major soft drinks company employee who helped improve recycling rates and waste reduction; a local authority that introduced a successful kitchen waste collection scheme and a three-man collection crew, all ex-miners, with a combined age of 181 (see letsrecycle.com story).

WRAP's then chief executive Jennie Price, told letsrecycle.com: It has never been more timely to showcase the achievements of the recycling industry.

“To deliver the necessary magnitude of change in waste management and recycling requires significant innovation and imagination and these awards help to demonstrate and reward the progress being made,” she added.

Closing date for entries is September 4, and entries should be sent to letsrecycle.com, Capital Tower, 91 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8RT.

Entry

Entrants must submit a 500-750 word summary of how they have achieved their success, which must primarily cover the 2006/07 financial year. Supporting material should help explain the entry and may include printed matter, statistical data, photographs, copies of media coverage and where appropriate, product samples.
