Employee killed at Wiltshire recycling centre

A SITA UK employee has died after an accident involving a paper baler at the company's recycling facility near Cricklade, Swindon.

Paul McGuire, from Wootton Bassett near Swindon, died early yesterday morning according to the Wiltshire Constabulary.

Police spokeswoman Jackie Broadbridge said: “Mr McGuire died yesterday at around 7.30am after falling into a baling machine. A post mortem is set to take place today and the Health and Safety Executive has begun an investigation into the death.”

The site has now been closed and will remain so until investigations at the facility have been completed.

A SITA spokeswoman said: “At this difficult time our thoughts are obviously with Paul's family, friends and work colleagues. Paul had worked for the company at the Swindon site for three months and was a well-liked and respected member of the team. Counselling has been offered to those within the team affected by yesterday's events.”

The spokeswoman added: “SITA UK takes its health and safety obligations very seriously. The events leading up to yesterday's incident are now a matter for investigation by ourselves and the Health and Safety Executive. Until this has been concluded we are unable to comment further.”

Mr McGuire was 33 and married.
