The comment came from Dr Gev Eduljee who now heads SITA’s Technical Group, and includes in his portfolio responsibility for environmental management and technical competence. Dr Eduljee succeeds Ralph Keeble who has moved within SITA, which is the largest waste management company in the UK, to work for the company in Hong Kong.
Previously a director at consultants Environmental Resources Management (ERM), Dr Eduljee joined SITA at the end of 2001. As SITA’s technical director, he leads a team of professional staff across the country with expertise in areas such as engineering, planning and construction for landfill sites and other waste management facilities.
Dr Eduljee is also responsible for developing SITA’s environmental management systems, such as ISO 14000. The company says: “Good environmental management is a priority for SITA. It published its environmental policy in 1998 and many of its sites, including the company’s energy-from-waste facility in Cleveland, have already gained environmental accreditation. SITA aims to have all its major facilities accredited by the end of the year.”
Commenting on his appointment, Dr Eduljee said: “The waste industry is constantly changing. SITA is a company that moves with the times and is proactive in its approach to environmental management and technical competence. If SITA is to remain one of the country’s leading waste management companies it must continue to work in this way and I am looking forward to leading SITA’s technical team through this changing environment.”
Dr Eduljee, who has a PhD in Chemical Engineering, worked for a number of years in the waste management industry before joining ERM in 1987.
