Directory of recycling in Ireland now available

The environment ministers of Ireland and Northern Ireland have jointly backed the new Recycling Directory of Ireland .

The directory provides details of recycling companies and reprocessors and gives contact details including web site and email addresses. Companies are broken down according to the type of material they handle. The directory also contains Ireland’s waste management statistics and has an overview of Irish waste legislation.

It has been produced by Belfast-based environmental charity NI2000 and the Euro LIFE Demo Project, a European Union environment scheme. Funding has come from Valpak and the BT Directory Recycling Project.

Noel Dempsey, Ireland’s environment minister, said: “This publication is a useful initiative that should facilitate businesses throughout the island in making a positive contribution to better environmental management as well as realising commercial opportunities.”

Sam Foster, Northern Ireland environment minister, said: “Over the coming years restriction on landfill will increase the incentive to develop new and innovative recycling ideas. We must capitalise on this… The knock-on effect will be economic growth and job creation. This directory will contribute to achieving that goal.”

Further information is available at the website NI2000. For a free copy of the directory, send an addressed envelope with stamps to the value of 2.77 to: NI2000, Nore, 16 Knockbracken Healthcare Park, Belfast BT8 8SG, tel: 028 9040 3779.
