Director appointed to head up engineering at Viridor

In his new role, Mr Cumming will oversee the delivery of over 1 billion of new energy-from-waste and recycling facilities planned by Viridor and will also sit on Viridors board.

Mr Cumming will take up the role in February 2013 and will be based at Viridors head office in Taunton, the company announced today (January 16). He will lead the existing engineering department in the delivery of Viridors capital programme, working with various partners and contractors to ensure that high standards of engineering are delivered.

Viridor said Mr Cumming had extensive experience across a wide range of engineering projects around the globe, most recently at EDF in their nuclear new build programme, where he held the position of deputy director of construction, project controls and procurement. Prior to that, he was director of capital projects for British Energys fleet of nuclear power plants from 2005 to 2009.

Background

Previously he has worked at Kvaerner, AMEC and Brown and Root delivering large projects in China, Indonesia and South Africa as well as in the UK. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Structural Engineer and has a MBA from Strathclyde Business School.

On the Viridor board, Mr Cumming will join Mr Drummond alongside fellow directors Andrew Kirkman (finance), Mark Burrows-Smith (operations), Howard Ellard (business development), Simon Catford (corporate responsibility & regulatory) and Joe Schwager and Rob Holden (non-executive). The board is chaired by a representative of Viridors parent company, Pennon.
