The conference will be held in Liverpool's Arena Convention Centre which is one of the most sustainable venues in Europe and was designed to reduce its CO2 emissions by half.

This year's event will be a particularly special one as it is the 25th anniversary of both the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) and event partner UPM. The LARAC conference will also celebrate its 20th year, making it a historic occasion.

Conference themes

In the run up to this year's event, the initial conference themes have also been announced. Local authorities have had a tough year with budgets and staff cuts and the 2010 conference will address this by focusing on efficiency, highlighting how delegates can deliver more on a reduced budget.

Highlights of the programme include: policy updates on the revised EU Waste Framework Directive; how to tap into volunteer power; one-to-one careers advice workshops; communications on a budget; and, recycling in the face of budget pressures and public demand.

The conference will continue to offer high quality speakers, first class debate, networking opportunities and key legislative and sector updates. LARAC members will also be invited to LARAC's AGM which will take place on Tuesday November 2 at the Jury's Inn, Liverpool.

Celebration awards

The LARAC celebration awards will take place on the evening of November 3 at the stunning St George's Hall, Liverpool, which is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and a Grade one listed building. Guests will enjoy a champagne reception, three course meal, awards ceremony and dancing.

Alongside event partner UPM, the 2010 LARAC sponsors include Aylesford Newsprint, Enterprise, The City of Liverpool, MEL, Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, Palm Recycling, SCA Recycling, Valpak, Viridor, Wastepack and YELL.
