Compliance scheme Biffpack appoints new manager

Biffpack, the UK's third largest packaging compliance scheme, has appointed a new manager to take forward the scheme's work helping packaging producers meet their legal recycling obligations.

Andy Bradford takes over as the new scheme manager from Helen Little, who is leaving to develop her own consultancy business specialising in the UK producer responsibility regulations.

Mr Bradford moves to Biffpack from DHL's Environmental Compliance Solutions, part of Exel before that company's acquisition by DHL.

Biffpack, part of Biffa Waste Services, was one of the first compliance schemes to be registered when packaging producers were made responsible for recycling packaging waste in 1997.

The scheme has grown its membership year on year, and in 2005 represented 513 members with an obligation of nearly half a million tonnes of material.

Phil Conran, Biffa's recycling manager and head of the Biffpack scheme, paid tribute to Ms Little's work for the scheme, but said Mr Bradford brought with him a “wealth of knowledge” to meet the challenges ahead.

Mr Conran said: “I am very grateful to Helen for all she has done for Biffpack. I shall miss her hugely and wish her every success developing her consultancy services. But Biffa are extremely fortunate to have a successor of Andy's calibre and background, and I look forward to him taking Biffpack forward meet the challenges ahead.”
