The standard gives official recognition to a not-for-profit organisation that has been able to compete with private sector for multi-material kerbside recycling tenders and now runs collections for 260,000 households in Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset.
Commenting on the award, Jude Andrews, development manager said: “The board decided that independent recognition of our quality systems was a priority for the organisation as we hope to add to our recent successes in Somerset. Quality systems help us to reach the procurement criteria for Local Authorities and proves the Community Sector is a credible and reliable service provider.”
Avon Friends of the Earth has been running for 20 years, and is currently the largest supplier of steel cans to the reprocessor Corus.
Speaking of the group's achievement, John Beaumont, senior business manager of the standards organisation CQS said: “Congratulations to Avon Friends of the Earth. This accreditation shows a commitment to excellence in the organisation. I was surprised how few changes the organisation had to make to achieve the standard as so many of the systems were already in place.”
