Commercial Vehicle Show proves a hit for waste management vehicles sector

The transport industry's annual showcase, the Commercial Vehicle Show, has just concluded at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham with more waste management vehicles there than ever before.

The exhibition, which is an amalgamation of three shows – those of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the Institute of Road Transport Engineers and the Road Haulage Association's 'Tipcon' event – has grown in stature since its inception a few years ago to become the industry's main event of the year.

Some in the vehicle say that it is hardly surprising to find more and more companies with waste management- and recycling-related products displaying their wares. For example, for the first time, John Bradshaw Electric Vehicles, a stalwart of the CIWM's Torbay show, exhibited at Birmingham. Whale Tankers, Partec Cargotec and Heil Europe were also there.

Moreover, some chassis and equipment manufacturers were privately talking of extending the CV Show to cover the full range of waste management vehicles as well. They consider there is plenty of space at the NEC, both inside the halls and for external displays, and, from their perspective, it reduces costs significantly by getting all the year's shows over with in one go.

All of this is seen as being of likely concern to the Chartered Institute of Waste Management which runs the Torbay event and to Emap which runs the Recycling and Waste Management Exhbition, both of which depend partly upon vehicle makers and bodybuilders for their exhibition income.
