Cawleys calls for CRC scheme to reward use of AD

Food waste management specialist Cawleys has launched a campaign calling for companies to be rewarded for diverting their food waste from landfill to energy-generating facilities such as anaerobic digestion (AD) plants by offsetting it against their energy consumption under the new Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme.

Cawleys also claims that introducing 'carbon credits' for firms sending their waste to AD plants would have the additional benefit of helping to drive the development of the technology in the UK, in line with the AD Implementation Plan, published by Defra last month (see letsrecycle.com story).

A positive reward in the form of credits under the CRC scheme is an obvious and fair solution, and would demonstrate that CRC is about saving the environment not raising taxes
