Artemis Hatzi Hull, DG Environment for end of life vehicles and batteries at the EU Commission, will headline the opening day at the Complete Auto Recycling Show (CARS) theatre, and will look at the future of the ELV directive in an ever-changing European market.
Joining her in the theatre is Janet Kes of Dutch Dismantler ARN and Peter Taylor, chief executive of the Tyre Recovery Association, who will be discussing vehicle recycling in the Netherlands and the technology, dismantling and recycling of EV batteries respectively.
Chad Counselman of US operator, Counselman Autos will also be in attendance, offering a stateside perspective
Leading event
The Metals Recycling Event (MRE) and Complete Auto Recycling Show (CARS) is the leading event in Europe dedicated to vehicle and metal recyclers.
Free to attend, the 2018 event will see more than 1,700 visitors across the two days experiencing not only the exhibition, but also the opportunity to participate in offsite tours, and a fantastic networking opportunity.
Metals Recycling
At the MRE theatre, market forces and what the future holds for the industry is on the agenda.
Chaired by Robert Fell, chief executive of the BMRA, the session includes contributions from the Bureau of International Recycling on international markets, the London Metal Exchange discussing the wider market and the Environment Agency looking at the environmental challenges of metal recycling.
Speaking ahead of the show, Malcolm Lythgo, head of waste regulation at the Environment Agency said there is still work to do despite the performance of the metal recycling sector improving its impact on the environment.
“To continue this improvement we are looking at the types and causes of incidents and identifying the common non compliances,” Mr Lythgo explained.
He added: “The sector also faces a number of current and future external challenges, that we need to understand and work together with trade associations, operators and waste producers to tackle them”.
Mr Lythgo will also chair a session looking at the wider positive impacts of metal recycling. With contributions from the BMRA, The World Land Trust and the Green Alliance they will present the environmental benefits and also look at creating stable secondary UK markets.
Other highlights include presentations from eBay, and tips for online business from SEO & Social companies Pelican Communications and Hot House Digital.
