A new post, Cardiff business waste advisor, is being created by the ARENA Network thanks to funding of 80,400 over the next two years.
The appointment is intended to help businesses in Cardiff become more competitive by becoming more resource efficient. In doing so the company's should reduce the impact that the production, use and disposal of their goods and services have on the environment – the WGA said.
Cardiff's business waste advisor will start with immediate effect. The total cost of the advisor over two years is 130.517. On top of the WGA funding, Cardiff city council and the Welsh Development Agency are set supply the remaining funding for the role.
Advisors
Cardiff is currently the only region in Wales without a business waste advisor. Elsewhere in Wales business waste advisors are already supporting business.
WGA explained that the business waste advisor for Torfaen had helped a printing company obtain an Objective 1 Clean Technology grant, which enabled the company to invest in a new recycling unit. The equipment will reduce the use of and disposal costs of chemicals on site.
Carwyn Jones – Minister for Environment, planning and countryside – said: “The advisor will be able to provide advice, ideas and support to businesses in the area, that realise minimising the amount of waste they produce makes good financial sense.”
WGA approved a 9.5 million Materials Action Programme for Welsh businesses in 2005. The programme is scheduled to run from 2005/06 to 2007/08.
