BSMA praises Environment Agency for pragmatic approach to metals

Subscriptions to the British Secondary Metals Association, held level for the past three years, are to rise in 2001 to help fund an increasing range of services.

The proposal was approved without anyone speaking against at the annual association meeting and dinner, held in Birmingham last night.

A buoyant membership, which has seen a generally good trading year, heard from President Caimin Rowntree that the association’s added services were proving a great success. And he pledged that more was in the pipeline, including an improved website .

Mr Rowntree saw the year’s trading picture “at best as mixed”.

Internally, he said that the past six months had been difficult for the council but he was delighted to announce that David Dodds of Sackers of Claydon was to take up the presidency in June 2001.

Looking back over the past year, Mr Rowntree said the association was very pleased about the way relationships had developed with the Environment Agency and in the way the agency was approaching industry.

In particular he singled out two senior agency officers for special mention, Martin Terry and Steve Lee.

“They have learnt the mechanics of the industry and learnt about our industry in recent years. I am pleased to say that the Environment Agency is adopting a more pragmatic approach overall.”
