The 5 million deal will see the company running kerbside recycling services for 11 councils in the Arc21 partnership of authorities, located in the eastern part of the province.

Councils in the Arc21 group include Antrim, Ards, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Castlereagh, Larne, Noewtownabbey and Nown Down borough councils as well as Down district council, Lisburn city council and Belfast city council.
The new deal with Bryson House will create 22 new jobs and will require a new 1 million materials recycling facility, which was opened by enterprise minister Angela Smith in Mallusk yesterday.
Speaking at the opening, the minister said: “The new facility is an excellent example of a social economy business which is helping to protect the environment whilst generating a healthy profit.”

Bryson House Recycling, which includes London-based ECT Recycling as a partner, now manages about 60% of recyclables collected at the kerbside in Northern Ireland. As well as the new Arc-21 contract, it services seven other councils. It has recently benefited from a 100,000 grant from development agency Invest Northern Ireland.

The new recycling facility at Mallusk has been installed by Carmac Waste Handling Systems to process paper, cardboard, cans and plastic bottles.
Nick McCafferty, Bryson House Recycling's chair, said: “This is an important day for us and marks the next step in the evolution of our recycling services. The new facility will allow us to process 45,000 tonnes of recyclables annually, which will significantly reduce the amount being landfilled in Northern Ireland.”
