Bridport site to be developed by SITA for waste contract

Following consultation with local residents, SITA has submitted a planning application to Dorset County Council for the development of a waste management facility at Wych Farm, Bridport.

The facility is integral to SITA’s waste strategy for Dorset and is required following the closure of Bothenhampton Landfill. The proposal will also replace the civic amenity site in South Street, Bridport.

SITA says that the Wych Farm facility will serve two local needs. Firstly, as a civic amenity site for the public to bring household waste for recycling or disposal. Secondly, as a waste transfer station for the district’s refuse vehicles to bring household waste to be bulked and transported for disposal.

The facility, which is expected to take nine months to develop, has been “sensitively designed and landscaped to minimise its impact on the environment”.

Dave Foster, SITA’s regional director said: “This development will provide Bridport and the surrounding area with a modern, well designed facility, capable of handling the area’s waste for the foreseeable future. It represents an important link in the chain for the provision of facilities to enable the county’s waste to be handled in an environmentally sustainable way.”
