The blaze on part of the premises close to Stockport Road West, Bredbury, Manchester started on Tuesday evening at 9.00 pm and was still being tackled today (21 August).
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said initially it sent five fire engines and an aerial appliance to the plant. Soon after a further five fire engines were sent to the incident meaning that around 50 firefighters were in attendance working to bring the blaze under control.
Smoke
Area Manager Sean Booth, who became Officer in Charge from the morning of Wednesday, August 20, said: “We will certainly be here for longer than today. There is a large smoke plume going into the air and moving towards Tameside.
“It’s not affecting the motorway but please take care when in the area.
“We were faced by a rapidly developing fire at a site of about 100m by 100m when we arrived after 9pm last night and have been working at the scene all night.
“Because of the efforts overnight, we were able to contain the fire and have been able to lift some of the road closures and restrictions that were put in place.”
In a statement the fire service said that a number of roads were affected including the entry slip road to J25 of the M60 motorway and it was working with Greater Manchester Police and the Highways Agency.

The company provides a range of activities and last month the company said it was seeking general waste in the North West for the RDF/SRF market place.

It is expected that the blaze is likely to have included RDF type material. Fire service investigations into the blaze are to follow once the incident has been concluded.
