During Prime Minister's Question Time, Tony Blair was asked by two MPs about the decision to end the portion of the LTCS which has gone through the scheme towards waste management and recycling work.
Pressed by Barry Sheerman MP, Mr Blair said that he would receive representations on the issue and if he thought it appropriate, would also receive a delegation.
The Treasury, this afternoon confirmed that the door was not closed to “good projects” currently supported under the waste and recycling heading of the LTCS. But, a spokesman for the Treasury pointed out that consultation had been carried out before the decision was made to amend the scheme from April.
He said the way forward had been clearly set out in the Pre-Budget Report and that one third of the funding would still be available.
The two thirds that will now go to public funds does not completely exclude those schemes that were funded under the 100 million which is now going to the public purse. He explained that such schemes could still receive support. “Working with local authorities, that money will be available albeit in an indirect fashion for good schemes.”
