Billboard campaign boosts visitors to Valpak consumer site

Valpak, the largest packaging waste compliance scheme, reports that its consumer information website, www.recycle-more.co.uk, received a record number of visitors in January 2002. More than 20,000 visitors went to the site, partly as a reuslt of a nationwide billboard campaign which focused on Christmas recycling.

The most popular page on the website, recycle-more.co.uk, is the ‘bank locator’ which enables users to search for their nearest
recycling site by typing in their postcode. The database, says Valpak, contains details of over 83% of all the recycling sites
in the UK, and “is the most accurately mapped facility of its kind”. Information is kept up-to-date by local
authorities, who can update details of their recycling sites online.

Funding for the website comes from Valpak's members because of a requirement under the packaging waste regulations to promote recycling and packaging waste information to consumers.

The billboard campaign is the second in a series of campaigns by Valpak to increase consumer awareness of
recycling. Similar campaigns are planned for 2002, and Valpak will be working alongside other
organisations to ensure the recycling message is spread as widely as possible.
