Organised by letsrecycle.com Live!, the inaugural event at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham will see a series of important conferences, seminars and workshops on the latest legislative and practical developments in recycling and waste management over two days on April 18th and 19th.

This will include major conferences on the waste strategy and its impact on fighting climate change, the imminent producer responsibility system for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and the development of treatment options for organic waste, including wood waste.
Additionally, John Holbrown of the Federation of Small Businesses, and Darren Male of the government's Envirowise organisation will be addressing how businesses can prepare waste strategies to help stem the rising waste management costs and tackle their environmental impact.
Carbon
Themed ‘Targets, Materials and the Carbon Economy’, the two-day event combines four separate conferences, workshops, a themed dinner and extensive networking opportunities.
“Early registrations are ahead of expectations, reflecting the Forum’s positioning as the major meeting point and source of information on those issues that will shape the agenda for the coming year,” says event director Steve Dickinson.
The Recycling & Waste Forum enjoys broad industry support including, among others, the Environmental Services Association, Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee, National Association of Waste Disposal Officers, Local Authority Plant & Vehicle and the Chartered Institute of Waste Management, who have recognised the conference as providing two days towards the Institution’s Graduate Structured Education and Training Programme or 12 hours of continuing professional development.

Day One
Day one will include a review of the Waste Strategy, examining how sustainable waste management can help meet the challenges of climate change. A simultaneous conference provides SMEs and larger businesses with advice and practical examples to help in creating and delivering a waste management strategy.
During the afternoon three workshops offer a choice of topics – driving up the recovery of packaging from the household waste stream; hazardous waste and linking local authority and business waste management to the carbon challenge.
The evening will feature a specially devised quiz dinner, hosted by Roy “say what you see” Walker of TV’s ‘Catchphrase’, in which guests compete against each other.
Day Two
The second day of the programme features two distinct conference themes – organics and WEEE. Delegates at the all-day organics conference will hear about the composting protocol and waste definitions, food waste, mechanical biological treatment, wood recycling and the biomass challenge.
Meanwhile, speakers at the half-day WEEE conference will discuss how a spread of activities will contribute to meeting the challenge of implementing the regulations covering waste electrical and electronic equipment, with afternoon workshops on transport and collection and battery recycling.
