Biffpack restructures management team as James Butler steps down

Biffpack is to have its management team restructured as compliance manager James Butler steps down in mid-August.

Mr Butler will be replaced by Helen Burfield, who has been with Biffpack for about four years, most recently as Biffpack co-ordinator.

In with the new: Helen Burfield replaces James Butler as Biffpack manager

Phil Conran, recycling manager at Biffa, said in a statement: “Helen is no stranger to the Packaging Regulations, having been largely managing the Biffpack membership over the last couple of years. She will now assume full responsibility for the scheme and its development alongside a PRN procurement manager who will shortly be appointed.”

After five years in charge of the compliance scheme set up by Biffa Waste Services in 1997, Mr Butler has decided to move into a different industry.

Mr Conran said: “His considerable humour alongside his wide knowledge has enabled a subject oft regarded as more confusing than cricket to be unravelled into some semblance of logic and he has played a significant part in the evolution of the regulations over his period of tenure.”

Mr Butler has been a leading figure in the development of packaging waste regulations, involved not only with members and trade associations, but also in recent months in advising the government on tyre producer responsibility
(see letsrecycle.com story) and in the House of Lords Committee inquiry into the effects of packaging waste legislation on the industry
