AWM is an established waste operator in the Yorkshire region, having been in business for more than 18 years.
The company operates 10 facilities in the Yorkshire area, handling commercial and municipal waste. This includes its flagship waste centre in Stourton, Leeds, which was opened in 2016 at a cost of more than £10 million (see letsrecycle.com story). AWM employs around 250 staff in the area.
AWM signed a major 12-year waste management contract with Bradford city council for the management of the authority’s residual waste – in the region of 150,000 tonnes per year – in September 2017 (see letsrecycle.com story).
Beauparc
Known in Ireland for its Panda and Greenstar waste management brands, Beauparc has been steadily building a foothold in the UK market in recent years, with a series of major acquisitions.
Beauparc first entered the UK market in 2016 with the acquisition of the former New Earth Solutions business (see letsrecycle.com story) and subsequently acquired the Widnes waste management company, WSR Recycling Limited (see letsrecycle.com story), which operates in the Liverpool region.
In March this year the company then expanded its UK business further with the acquisition of the Scottish skip hire and waste management business, Scotwaste – giving it a total of six sites across the country.
The company also has reach into mainland Europe following the acquisition of Rotterdam-based waste management firm Renes, which was also finalised this year.
Growth strategy
Commenting on the acquisition today, Brian McCabe, managing director at Beauparc said: “We are very pleased to conclude the acquisition of AWM as this adds to our growth strategy in the UK and brings a level of scale and processing capabilities to Beauparc.
“It is our intention to continue with what is already in place throughout AWM, and to build or develop this business even further, ensuring AWM continues to grow whilst still providing the quality of service that customers have been used to. This acquisition is part of our strategic growth plans for the UK.”
AWM will continue to be known and trade as AWM, while services will continue as normal from the company offices and sites. The AWM office will become the UK head office for Beauparc’s UK division.
Beauparc said it is ‘delighted’ that existing AWM staff including John Brooksbank, the company’s managing director, Tim Shapcott, commercial & business development director and Colette Bloom, finance director, will remain with the business. Eamonn Hanley will take on the operations and logistics director role with immediate effect.
