This year marks twenty years since the Kent-based paper mill started producing 100% recycled newsprint and ten years since the company launched “the world's fastest 100% recycled newsprint machine”, a machine that produces over 1,600 metres of paper a minute.

To honour the occasion, Aylesford has launched a competition to seek interesting photographs of recycling facilities. The company said its “Wish you were recycling here…?” competition was for the type of people who notice recycling banks on street corners, who check the recyclability of food containers and those who “truly understand the importance of limited resources.”
Aylesford's recycling manager Chris White explained: “We thought that recycling people are a bit nerdy when they go on holiday sometimes, and often end up taking pictures of recycling banks instead of what normal people take pictures of. So we thought we'd; run a fun competition.”
A judging panel of industry experts will assess photographs in three categories:
- Everyday Practices
- Unusual Places
- Unusual Projects
The winning photograph in each category will receive 500 in travel vouchers and the overall winner will receive an additional voucher worth 500. The competition will be open until August 31, 2005, and Aylesford said it will be posting entries on its website as and when they are entered.
Pictures should be marked with names and addresses, as well as where the pictures were taken, the date and a brief description of the scene. Entrants can submit as many pictures as they like, emailing them to: recycling@aylnews.com or posting to Aylesford Newsprint Ltd, Recycling Department, Newsprint House, Bellingham Way, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7DL.
