Former FCC man joins Closed Loop

Mr Stapeleys appointment at Closed Loop Recycling will see him overseeing the companys partnerships with its key customers and promoting the We Need Your Bottles message to waste management companies and local authorities.

Having spent 11 years in the waste industry, including nine years at FCC Environment, Mr Stapeley managed the firms energy from waste capacity working with the likes of Kent county council, SITA Surrey and Veolia East Sussex. He also worked as commercial manager for European Metal Recycling.

Commenting on his appointment, James Stapeley said: Im really pleased to be joining Closed Loop Recycling, a pioneering company which shares my values of seeing waste as a precious resource and promoting the benefits of zero landfill. The UK has come far in recent years in driving up plastic recycling rates but there is much more that can still be done to promote the We Need Your Bottles message, particularly in light of the European Commissions announcement about higher recycling targets.

Remondis appoints technical assessor

Hazardous waste specialist Remondis UK has appointed a new technical assessor as part of the continued expansion of its UK division.

John Potts has joined the firm as technical assessor at the new site in Prescot, Merseyside, which opened in June 2013. With a background in the chemical sector and a degree in chemistry, Mr Potts also has six years experience in waste industry, including time at Enviroco as senior technical assessor working alongside Remondis.

Commenting on the appointment, he said: I am very excited about my role at Remondis UK and I am looking forward to playing a part in its future success. Having built my career in the waste industry, I am impressed with the facilities at Prescot and it was a huge draw in helping me to decide to join the team.

Lusher joins WasteCare as chief executive

Former Veolia director David Lusher has joined the Yorkshire-based recycling firm WasteCare as chief executive.

According to WasteCare, Mr Lusher will have overall responsibility for all operations, logistics and administration, as well as heading a strategic review of the business.

Mr Lusher joined Caird in 1990 becoming a director at the age of 29. Following a series of acquisitions he became a main board director at Veolia, responsible for industrial markets, including hazardous waste and industrial services divisions, together with QHSE and business development for their entire UK business.

Commenting on his appointment, Peter Hunt, WasteCares founder, said: I have known David for over 10 years and have great respect for his experience and knowledge of the recycling sector. As the business continues to grow his obvious management skills and innate wisdom will be fully utilised in the months and years ahead.

The move will also see Mr Hunt taken on a new role as he steps up to become Executive Chairman responsible for sales and marketing.

Fairport expands bank services team

Fairport Containers has announced the expansion of its recycling bank services with the appointment of a new team member, Rashda Zahir, who joins as banks coordinator.

The company says that the appointment will support its new service offering of refurbishment, remodelling, repair and manufacture of recycling banks.

Miss Zahir joins recycling banks manager, Lisa Mullally, who was appointed to head up the recycling banks service just a few months ago. Previously, she had worked in the transport department at a reconditioning and recycling agency.

Commenting on her new role, Miss Zahir said: I am delighted to join Lisa and Im really enjoying the job. The role is busy and varied and Im quickly learning to turn my hand to anything.

I am pleased that the role has scope for development too. Its a great opportunity to help grow and develop a new area in a successful business.
