It follows Shanks’ decision to award a long-term contract to the firm to operate 14 HWRCs owned by Cumbria county council in 2014.

As part of the new contract, the company has now set up a new HWRC management team to oversee the operation of the sites, headed by contract manager Paul Taylor and supported by area supervisors Katy Barnard and Mark Schofield.

Mr Taylor, who joined Cumbria Waste Group from SITA UK, has over 25 years’ experience in the sector.

He said: “We already have excellent recycling rates at the centres but by further enhancing the service we provide, we hope this will increase rates even further. We can do this through engagement with people who bring their recycling to the sites, ensuring they are made aware of the wide range of items that can be brought the centres and generally making their visit efficient and pleasurable.”

Mr Eule said it was an “exciting time” for STADLER UK, with recent staff appointments improving the strength of its delivery team.

He succeeds Steve Barker, who has recently been promoted to managing director of Yorwaste.

Mr Derham, who lives in Selby with his wife and two children, said he was ready for a “new challenge”.

He said: “Having experience of different roles within the waste industry, both in the public and private sector, will stand me in good stead in my new role and I am looking forward to working with my team to help Yorwaste meet its strategic business objectives in the coming years.”

Mr Chalmers, who joins Keenan with more than 25 years’ experience in the industrial sector, will oversee all procedures at the firm’s New Deer base and ensure the business remains in line with legislation.

His appointment comes at a time of ‘rapid growth’ for the company following the launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations in January 2014 which has seen its client list increase from 600 to 1,800 customers.

Mr Chalmers said: He said: “Due to the nature of the business the staff are regularly carrying out tasks which could be seen as hazardous and there is always heavy machinery moving around the yard, which all require protocols to be in place to ensure all workers are safe at work.”
