EIC appoints Matthew Farrow as executive director

According to the EIC, which represents the UKs environmental technologies and services sector, the role will see Mr Farrow provide greater strategic direction, bolster lobbying efforts and drive the industrys representation with government, regulators and the wider policy making community.

Mr Farrow departs his role with the ESA, with whom he served for two years, on Friday 27 September. During his time with the ESA Mr Farrow held the role of director of policy and led on communicating its policy positions to ministers, senior civil servants and MPs. Prior to this Mr Farrow spent 20 years in a variety of roles for the Confederation of British Industries (CBI), most notably as head of energy and environment as well as head of transport and planning.

Commenting, EICs chairman and ACE chief executive, Dr Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, said: We are delighted to have Matthew join the team. He brings with him a wealth of experience from which to provide renewed strategic direction and drive to EICs operations. Since acquiring the company in November last year, EICs parent company, the Association for Consultancy and Engineering, has invested in EIC to ensure it has the tools and resources it needs to continue as the leading voice representing the UKs environmental technologies and services sector Matthew is a key component of this investment.

Mr Farrow added: The environmental technologies and services sector, which is worth 1 billion to the UKs economy and employs over one million people, provides huge opportunities for further job creation and economic growth both domestically and abroad through huge export opportunities. Im excited to be part of an expanding EIC team, and to working closely with our members to ensure we are offering a service that meets their needs, exceeds their expectations, and grows this vitally important sector of the economy.

Former Shanks director joins Wastecycle

East Midlands-based Wastecycle has appointed former Shanks resource and recovery director Paul Clements as head of sales and marketing.

In his new position with the waste management firm, Mr Clements will have overall responsibility for new business development as well as working with existing customers to optimise their recycling rates. Wastecycle is part of the environmental division of the DCC Group and undertakes a number of activities including: skip hire; food waste recycling; wood recycling; site waste management; and, commercial waste services. Mr Clements spent seven years with Shanks, prior to which he worked for SITA UK for 10 years in a range of business development and marketing roles.

CKN Holdings recruits new staff

Lincolnshire-based plastics recycler CKN Holdings has hired Jason Lennon as UK commercial manager and Chen Jia Yao as sales manager in Hong Kong.

Mr Lennons primary role will be to maximise the volume recovered from his area covering the central spine of the UK broadly from Lincolnshire down to the south coast for three of the four divisions of CKN. CKN said he is an experienced sales executive with an excellent record of achievement. Meanwhile, Mr Yao will report to Terry Lau. Based fully in China, he will focus on both existing and new sales customers.

The firm is made up of four divisions CK Polymers; CK Plastic Recycling; CK Polymers Hong Kong; and, CK Distribution. This sees CKN Holdings offer a selection of plastic recycling services.

Consultancy Enzygo opens Welsh office

Environmental consultancy Enzygo has opened an office in Monmouth in a bid to help grow its business in Wales.

The new office will be headed up by Chris Formaggia, Enzygos director of ecology. The firm, which already has two offices in Bristol and Sheffield, has grown from a three-man start up in 2008 to a firm with almost 20 staff and an annual turnover in excess of 1.5 million. Enzygo covers a number of areas including waste planning and permitting, flood risk, renewable energy and contaminated land.

Commenting on the expansion, Matt Travis, co-founder and Director at Enzygo, said, Opening our third office, in just five years from our inception, is an extremely proud moment for our directors and staff. Our move into Wales in is direct response to our expanding client base and on-going projects within the region and we fully expect the local team there to expand over the course of the next year.
