Sam Reeve to take over as Resource Futures chief executive
Environmental consultancy Resource Futures, has promoted operations director Sam Reeve to the role of chief executive, which he will take over from April 2016.

As a part of the move, current chief executive Jane Stephenson will become the company’s business development director, while Phil Cumming is also joining the business as non-executive director.
Mr Cumming currently works as a sustainability advisor to Marks & Spencer.
On his promotion Mr Reeve commented: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the company’s next CEO and am looking forward to leading the organisation’s future development, with Jane’s support in her new role.
“The addition of Phil Cumming as a non-executive director will assist us in the continued development of our support to commercial clients to add maximum value within their supply chains and communities.”
Mr Reeve went on the state that the company’s holistic approach to resource efficiency is aligned with the future requirements outlined in the EU’s recently published Circular Economy package.

Interim environment director joins Kensington and Chelsea
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has appointed Sue Harris as the interim executive director of Environment, Leisure and Residents’ Services (ELRS).

Ms Harris takes charge of all its services in Kensington and Chelsea whilst also continuing her previous position directing the same services for the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The director role includes responsibility for the council’s climate change programme and the cleanliness of streets in the borough, as well as overlooking leisure and art services.
Born in Bristol, Ms Harris worked for Richmond and Merton before joining Hammersmith and Fulham and then becoming ‘bi-borough’ director in 2011. She has experience leading waste, enforcement and fleet transport services.
The position will replace Lyn Carpenter, who has been appointed as chief executive of Thurrock.
Commenting on the appointment, Ms Harris said: “ELRS have much to do over the coming months and I am fortunate to have a great team working with me. Members want the very best for our residents and I will do all I can to maintain our excellent environmental, leisure and culture services.”

New UK sales engineer for Tomra Sorting Recycling
Sorting specialist Tomra Sorting Recycling has taken on Gavin Russell as its UK sales engineer.

In the new role, Mr Russell will focus on building and maintaining Tomra’s professional relationships, as well as developing new sales opportunities for the company across both the recycling and metal sectors in the UK and Ireland.
Previous to Tomra, Mr Russell has had a range of experience including sorting operations manager for Veolia Environmental Services UK and prior to this, 11 years as team leader for Toyota.
The role is being taken over from Brian Gist, who was promoted to global sales director, metal, earlier this year. Mr Russell will report to Christoph Bach, Tomra Sorting’s European sales director.
Mr Bach commented: “Gavin has a very strong operations background as well as an extensive knowledge of the waste management industry and managing MRFs.
“He is already proving to be a real asset and we’re confident that he will help us to achieve our ambitious growth targets for Tomra Sorting in the UK.”

Suez makes two senior appointments
The UK recycling and recovery division of waste management firm Suez has made two key appointments.

Gary Mayson has joined the management board as director of energy, taking responsibility for the company’s energy business and its portfolio of energy generation assets across the UK. This includes energy from waste (ERF) facilities, anaerobic digestion (AD), gasification and landfill gas operations.
Mr Mayson, who has worked in various engineering and management roles for Suez since 1998, moves to the board from his previous position as general manager of the processing division for Suez Energy Solutions.
The second appointment is Gary Whitehead, who joins as director of customer development where he will take responsibility for the management of key corporate customer contracts.
Mr Whitehead previously worked at Visy, a leading packaging and paper manufacturer.
Both new directors will report to chief executive officer, David Palmer-Jones, who said: “I am pleased to welcome Gary Mayson to the board of directors, which reflects the strategic importance we place on the energy-generation business, and our most valuable assets, moving forward.
“I am also pleased to welcome Gary Whitehead to Suez in a new role for the business as customer development director. Gary will take responsibility for our key corporate accounts as we increasingly help our industrial and commercial customers realise more innovative, sustainable and circular waste management solutions.”
