Simon Woods joins as Chief Operating Officer of PackUK
PackUK, scheme administrator for Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging (pEPR), has appointed Simon Woods as its new Chief Operating Officer.
Woods brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across the UK public sector, with a background in delivering large-scale operational services, legislative change programmes, digital innovation and customer service improvements.
In his new role, Woods will support the delivery of the pEPR scheme, with a focus on user-focused services for businesses and citizens.
He commented: “What attracted me to PackUK was the opportunity to work on something that touches everyone’s daily lives.
“Packaging is something we all interact with and has a significant impact on our environment and economy.
“From reducing waste to supporting reuse and recycling, I look forward to helping PackUK in its mission to drive a more circular and sustainable future.”
PackUK said Woods’ experience in bringing people together to deliver transformation would play a key role in the organisation’s work.
Simon Hicks takes over as CEO of Hargreaves Services
Simon Hicks has been appointed chief executive officer of Hargreaves Services plc.
Hicks takes over the role after previously working with the Group and succeeds Gordon Banham, who will continue to lead Hargreaves’ German joint venture.
Hargreaves Services’ Environmental Services division provides total waste management, specialist waste solutions and Energy from Waste support.
Hicks said he was “incredibly proud” to take on the role, adding that he was excited by the opportunities ahead for the business.
He said: “Hargreaves is the force unseen behind essential infrastructure and environmental services, helping keep life moving and supporting the industries and communities that rely on them.
“We have great teams across the Group with deep expertise and a strong track record of delivery. My job is to help create the conditions for them to succeed, grow and unlock the opportunities ahead of us.”
Peter Tilston to be permanent West London Waste Authority MD
West London Waste Authority (WLWA) has appointed Peter Tilston as its permanent Managing Director.
Tilston, who has been serving as interim Managing Director, will lead the Authority as it delivers waste and recycling services on behalf of its six constituent boroughs.
He will oversee the organisation’s strategic direction, working with borough partners, contractors and stakeholders on service delivery, reuse and recycling, and resource efficiency.
WLWA chair Councillor Dominic Moffitt said Tilston stood out during the recruitment process for his “clear vision”, collaborative approach and progress made during his time as interim managing director.
Tilston commented: “Waste and recycling is changing rapidly, with new legislation, growing expectations around resource efficiency and increasing recognition of the role our sector can play in supporting a more circular economy.
“I’m excited to work with colleagues and partners to navigate a changing legislative landscape, unlock greater value from the resources we manage, and continue building a more circular future for West London.”
British Glass confirms leadership team following GTS separation
British Glass has confirmed its senior leadership team following its separation from Glass Technology Services (GTS).
Dr Nick Kirk will lead the organisation as Executive Director, with Victoria Adams appointed Public Affairs and Communications Director, Paul Pearcy as Energy and Industry Director, and Jenni Richards as Environment and Circularity Director.
The separation sees British Glass operate as an independent trade federation focused on advocacy, policy and member support, while GTS will provide technical services, testing and research. GTS remains wholly owned by British Glass.
Kirk commented: “As an independent organisation, British Glass is well placed to continue delivering for its members and representing the interests of the UK glass industry.
“With a strong leadership team, experienced board in place and wider dedicated British Glass team, we look forward to building on our work to support the sector’s growth, sustainability ambitions and long-term success.”
At its annual general meeting on 14 July, members also confirmed the reappointment of Matthew Demmon, Vincent Godfrey, Sean Murphy, Stephen Severs and Nicholas Kirk to the board, alongside chair Allen Norris.
Dean Butler was confirmed as president until 31 December 2027.
