With appointments at Biffa, UKFT, Lifecycle Oils and The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR).  


Robin Stevenson to lead Biffa’s C&D team 

Biffa has hired Robin Stevenson to lead its construction and demolition waste (C&D) division.

Stevenson has moved over from his role as managing director of Scotland’s Hamilton Waste & Recycling which was acquired by Biffa in November 2023.  

Biffa operates C&D processing facilities in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Cardiff and Hampshire. 

Maxine Mayhew, COO at Biffa Collections and Specialist Services, said: “I am delighted that Robin is joining my leadership team.  

“He brings a wealth of experience and will be working closely with our customers and stakeholders to build on our market-leading portfolio of services and to accelerate the growth within our C&D division through both acquisition and organic growth.  

“And I know he will drive our ambition to position Biffa as the UK’s go-to service provider within the C&D sector.” 


Mohammed Patel joins UKFT as membership manager 

Mohammed Patel has joined the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) as membership manager for its Reuse and Recycling division.

He transfers from his position as business development manager of the Textiles Recycling Association (TRA).  

Before joining the TRA, he previously spent 30 years as operations manager at textiles collector and sorter Savanna Rags.  

He said: “The UK’s textile sector is at a critical turning point.  

While I’m sad to be leaving the TRA, I am incredible grateful for the experience and the relationships I’ve built.  

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with industry leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to drive forward meaningful change.”  


New leadership team for Lifecycle Oils  

Lifecycle Oils has announced the appointment of a new leadership team.  

Suzanne McKenzie (Sales Director), Adam Thompson (CEO) and Mark Mansfield (Operations Director).

Its former CFO Adam Thompson has been made CEO while senior business leader Graeme McFaull has been made non-executive chairman.  

They are joined by Mark Mansfield as operations director and Suzanne McKenzie will be sales director.  

The appointments follow investment from Gresham House’s Sustainable Infrastructure “BSIF” funds.  

Thompson said: “Our mission is to support the transformation of the UK energy system for the benefit of people and the planet. To achieve this, we’ll drive sustainable growth by expanding our nationwide collection network, diversifying into new areas of the food industry, developing our waste oil collection service and building further production capacity.” 


Bureau of International Recycling grows communications team 

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has announced the appointment of a new communications officer.  

Daniela Waizel Rule, BIR

Daniela Waizel Rule will join the team on 1 April 2025 having recently been awarded a Masters Degree in “Communications and Digital Media in Europe”.  

Rule is originally from Mexico and has lived in Germany and Belgium.  

Elisabeth Christ, BIR communications director, said: “I am delighted to welcome Daniela to the BIR communications team. 

“Her international background, strong communications expertise and team-spirited nature make her a great asset to the BIR secretariat. 

“The expansion of our communications team reflects the emphasis that BIR is putting on enhanced and diversified communications work. I look forward to Daniela’s contributions to BIR’s outreach and engagement with our global membership.”
