Appointments Round-Up (07/03/2025)

With appointment news from Resource Recovery UK, Enfinium, Encyclis, Tomra Recycling, European Metals Recycling (EMR), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Altilium.

Enfinium CEO to become chair of Resource Recovery UK

Resource Recovery UK (RRUK) has announced that Mike Maudsley, CEO of Enfinium, will be replacing Owen Michaelson, CEO of Encyclis, as chair.

Michaelson was the inaugural chair of RRUK and has held the position for the last two years.

He said: “As a sector that is heavily influenced by policy alignment across waste management, taxation, energy and decarbonisation, we identified a clear need for Energy-from-Waste to adopt a united voice.

“Our sector offers huge potential to contribute to clean growth and accelerate progress on net zero. Progress in these areas depends on policy makers understanding the role which Energy-from-Waste can play in delivering on the UK’s circularity and low carbon ambitions.

“I gave myself a personal target of proving to key stakeholders that our modern fleet of EFW facilities should be seen as a key part of the UK’s social infrastructure. I am satisfied that we have taken significant strides forward in our first two years and I know we will continue to do so under Mike Maudsley’s leadership as our new chair.”

Tomra hires new segment area manager for wood

Technology company Tomra Recycling has appointed Alexandre Clairembault as its segment area manager for wood.

Clairembault has worked in the sector for over 20 years and will be based at Tomra’s French office in Salon-de-Provence.

Jose Matas, segment director for Wood at Tomra, comments: “We’re delighted to welcome Alexandre to our wood segment. TOMRA has a long history of providing expert solutions and cutting-edge sorting technology to the wood industry. Alexandre’s extensive experience makes him perfectly positioned to drive our European expansion, capitalising on the growing demand for circular wood waste solutions and strengthening our local teams.”

EMR congratulates Tim Moss CBE on his appointment to DVLA

European Metals Recycling (EMR) has welcomed the appointment of Tim Moss CBE as chief executive of the Drive and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

EMR’s managing director Roger Morton said: “We hope that eliminating the significant loophole in the DVLA system that leads to a loss of up to one million tonnes of end-of-life vehicles containing steel, aluminium and other valuable raw materials, is high on his priority list.

“Vehicles moved into ‘Trade’ status can currently either be recycled without traceability in the UK or exported for ‘reuse’ in developing countries. This lost material is vital in supporting the UK’s industrial infrastructure, particularly the recently approved Electric Arc Furnace at Port Talbot, Wales, and we need to make sure it’s safely, compliantly and responsibly recycled by approved facilities – with full traceability.

“Closing this loophole will require both policy changes by the Department for Transport and software investment at the DVLA. However, it will bring significant benefits for taxation and help retain valuable resources within the UK.

“EMR stands ready to collaborate with Tim and the DVLA to strengthen to UK’s resource security and transform more materials from end-of-life vehicles into the valuable resources of tomorrow.”

David Cartwright made managing director of Altilium

Technology company Altilium has appointed David Cartwright as its managing director.

Cartwright has 40 years of experience in the chemicals industry, including steering complex chemical projects and an extensive management background.

He comes from the Kolmar Group which specialises in petrochemicals, petroleum and renewable products.

Cartwright commented: “I am thrilled to join Altilium at such an exciting time and to continue my journey from trading petrochemicals to advocating for sustainable solutions.

“The EV revolution is here, and recycling is critical to its sustainability. I look forward to working with the impressive Altilium team, helping to drive continued innovation and ensure that we not only meet the demand for clean energy but also minimise environmental harm in the process.”
