Wastecycle announces general manager appointment

East Midlands resource management and recycling company Wastecycle has appointed Richard Dolben as its general manager – recycling.

Mr Dolben, 52, joined Wastecycle at the beginning of last month, following a re-organisation which sees Kevan Wilcockson move from director of recycling to the newly created position of compliance and development director.

The new recruit will be responsible for all of the operational aspects of Wastecycle’s Nottingham recycling facility, the company confirmed.

He will report to managing director Paul Needham. Mr Needham said: “Richard has over 20 years of management experience, gained at companies including Jeld Wen Ltd to draw upon.

“His proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver continuous improvement will be incredibly helpful to us as we strive to grow Wastecycle further. During the recruitment process, he suggested several new initiatives that we will be exploring. We’re very much looking forward to working with him.”

Mr Dolben revealed he is determined to keep up the “momentum” at Wastecycle after the company enjoyed a successful financial year.

Wastecycle was established in 1998 and processes more than 400,000 tonnes of waste per year.

Repic expands team with two new recruits

Vikki Law and Ben Froggatt have joined waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme Repic.

Ms Law joins the organisation as compliance and quality manager, having worked in customer management roles for over 20 years. The role will involve legal compliance, business continuity, maintaining procedures and systems of the highest level.

Commenting on her appointment said: “It’s a great opportunity to work with an organisation that matches the experience I’ve gained from over 20 years in this industry. I’m very keen to help spread the recycling message and encourage even more people to recycle their WEEE.”

Mr Froggatt joined the Repic finance team as an accounts assistant after returning to the UK after spending 12-months working with education specialist Kaplan in Australia.

Prior to this Mr Froggatt worked at Champion in Manchester where he focused largely on sub-contractor accounts.

Dr Phillip Morton, chief executive of Repic, said the appointment of the duo will “strengthen” the team.

He added: “Appointing Vikki and Ben illustrates our commitment to continuously improving our business.”

Keenan Recycling appoints commercial director

Aberdeenshire-based organic waste processing firm Keenan Recycling has appointed Ritchie Clark as commercial director, tasked with increasing turnover for the company.

Mr Clark, 39, is a qualified chartered account – he previously worked in banking and equity for the Bank of Scotland.

He went on to be a director with investment banking firm Simmons and Company for six years, specialising in managing and advising on deals in the energy industry.

Mr Clark said: “I’m commercially focussed and strategic in my approach so I’ll be well placed to guide them on future deals across the UK.”

Grant Keenan, managing director of Keenan Recycling welcomed the appointment.

He said: “Ritchie’s depth of experience from previous senior roles will help us to consider the bigger picture when approaching potential deals in the future.”

Keenan has said its ambition is to grow turnover from £7 million to between £30 and £40 million in the next five years.

The firm, which recycles food and garden waste into compost, has expanded and opened an office near Edinburgh.

A cash injection of £2.2 million from the Business Growth Fund saw the company invest in an eight-acre site for development in Lindwood, near Glasgow.

Keenan Recycling revealed that more acquisitions are planned.

Marketing manager joins Cawleys

Helen Bastin has joined waste services firm Cawleys as marketing manager, the company has announced.

She has worked previously as director of marketing at Kingshott School, marketing and campaigns manager at Willen Hospice and marketing and communications manager at Copart.

Her key responsibilities will include strategic delivery, relationship management and communications.

Ms Bastin will be tasked with coming up with activities to help mark the company’s 70th birthday next year.

Anna Cawley, head of customer services, commenting on the appointment, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Helen on board at this exciting time in our company history. Our family values are important to us but so too are the new ideas and inspiration which people from outside the business can bring, and Helen’s wide experience will be a real asset to us.”

Ms Bastin added: “I’m thrilled with my new position and I look forward to the road ahead. It’s an exciting time for Cawleys, and a fascinating industry to be joining.  We want to show that Cawleys will continue to play a strong part in driving the circular economy as Britain leaves the EU and help more customers benefit from the green credentials we can offer.”

Jonathan Lea to retire as WRAP CFO

Jonathan Lea will retire as WRAP’s chief finance officer (CFO) at the end of 2016, following six years in the role, it has been announced.

Mr Lea has played a role in the organisation’s strategic development, as well as the organisation’s transition to becoming a registered charity.

Julie Hill, Chair, WRAP, said: “Jonathan has been a hugely supportive CFO, and I wish him the very best for his retirement.”
