Andrew Francis appointed to Advisory Committee on Packaging

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed the appointment of Complypak managing director Andrew Francis to the government's Advisory Committee on Packaging.

Mr Francis has been involved in the recycling industry for more than 10 years. As compliance scheme manager, he helped set up Onyx's compliance scheme Onyxpak in 1998 before leaving to join Complypak in 2001 (see letsrecycle.com story).

Ironically, the vacancy on the ACP came up after Mr Francis' successor at Onyxpak, Edward Cooke, left the company last year.

Consisting of members from packaging companies, compliance schemes, reprocessors and other representatives from the system, the ACP is currently looking at how the packaging waste recovery system can be improved.

Appointed to his position by environment minister Michael Meacher, Mr Francis will become a member of the ACP's task forces looking into issues including UK infrastructure needs, data transparency, regulatory enforcement.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Francis told letsrecycle.com: “I hope to make a useful contribution to the various issues being discussed on the ACP. As well as a number of years' experience in the packaging waste sector, I will be able to provide the perspective of a smaller compliance scheme.”
