Alcan increases aluminium prices for the second time this month

Alcan Aluminium Can Recycling has increased the price paid to suppliers of used aluminium beverage cans for the second time in a month.

This is the second increase in the UBC price by Alcan this year and reflects the current strength of the market for aluminium cans and similar scrap.

Prices paid for UK UBC conforming to specification and delivered to one of AACR’s seven regional process centres have been increased to 730 per tonne (baled or densified) and 680 per tonne (loose, flattened or loose whole). The price rise took effect on March 18.

This aluminium market has tightened this year as there is a general shortage of aluminium scrap and with strong demand Alcan is optimistic that prices will rise further during the year. Alcan dropped its aluminium price three times last year because of the weak non-ferrous market.
