The consultation closes at 11.45pm on 26 January 2018, with the date having been extended to give more time for responses.

The current consultation includes a look at proposals to make changes to the charging for licences for:
- regimes within the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016
- radioactive substances regulation nuclear and non-nuclear permits
- marine licences
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013
- Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015
- European Union Emissions Trading System
- definition of waste services
- planning advice
Cost recovery
The Agency points out that it is required by the secretary of state for environment food and rural affairs to “to recover the costs of its main regulatory services from those they regulate. For other aspects of EA work relating to fisheries, recreation and navigation, they raise charges on those who benefit, supplemented by government grants.”
And, it adds that “all charges are agreed by Defra and the Environment Agency board. The approval process includes consultation and approval by government ministers”.
