Acquisitions on the horizon for the Wastepack group

The future of the Wastepack group is likely to involve a number of acquisitions of other, like-minded businesses, according to chief executive Paul Ashworth.

In his first major interview since becoming chief executive, Mr Ashworth told letsrecycle.com that once the group is ready, its majority shareholder, venture capital firm Duke Street Capital will support such moves.

“We are very interested in acquiring other businesses – and Duke Street will back us to do it if it's right,” Mr Ashworth said.

He explained: “It's most likely to be a business that looks like us. If the right one came along, and the measure of it would be that it supported our customers, then that's something we&#39d; go for.”

Before any such acquisitions are made, however, Mr Ashworth said there is likely to be some development and possible expansion of the services Wastepack already provides.

As well as investments in internet technology to give customers easier access to information, the group is looking at the possible opportunities offered by the UK's changing legislative landscape. One idea that is being considered is in the field of waste electronics.
