Aberdeenshire council looks into allegation of misconduct

A senior waste officer at Aberdeenshire council remains suspended from duty following an allegation of misconduct.

The officer involved was suspended on Wednesday July 30 and has not been named by the council. Waste manager Jack Clark was also suspended on the same day, but was re-instated today (August 5).

A statement from the council said last week: “Aberdeenshire council can confirm that following an allegation of misconduct being made earlier this week, two council managers were suspended from duty. The suspensions are a precautionary measure in line with established routine procedures and are designed to allow an investigation into the allegations to be conducted speedily.”

It went on: “The allegations are internal in nature and do not involve criminal matters. In light of the investigation now under way, it is inappropriate for the Council to comment further at this stage.”

Reinstated
In a statement made today, the council said that it had found no evidence to support the allegation made against Mr Clark.

It said: “The investigation has concluded that an allegation made against Jack Clark, the council’s waste services manager, based in Inverurie, is completely without foundation. Mr Clark has been reinstated with immediate effect today (Tuesday 5 August) and that matter is now closed.”

It added: “One manager remains suspended meantime, in line with established routine procedures, to allow the rest of the investigation to continue as speedily as possible.”

A council spokesman told letsrecycle.com that the investigation involving the remaining suspended officer was “moving forward very quickly”, although no precise timeframe was known. While being unable to comment further on the investigation, the council has said it “remains an internal matter and does not involve any allegation of criminal activity”.
