The organics recycling company says the 100,000 tonnes per year capacity plant will provide a “great opportunity to secure much-needed” contingency storage to customers, which will include winter storage options.
It added that it will begin to develop the site in coming months.
The facility will either store the material prior to ground conditions being suitable to spread, or send any material that is unsuitable for further treatment, such as compost which needs to be checked for contamination.
Site
The site consists of six acres of concrete and 45,000 sq ft of indoor space, and is described by 4R as a “specialist waste-to-land recycling centre” for waste and by-products that are beneficial for soils and crops, such as composts, biosolids, and clean water sludge.
The permit will allow the site to treat and store up to 100,000 tonnes a year of materials, which also will include green and food waste.
Planning permission
The initial plans for the site were submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire council two years ago, and planning permission secured in June 2020, subject to a Section 106 agreement being reached between the company and the council.
The agreement, which was signed in December 2020, is a legally binding agreement with the council to ensure maintenance of the public highway leading up to the site.
