The course is designed to provide an introduction to waste export controls (Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Regulations). It will be relevant to anybody involved in the export of waste or anybody considering exporting waste or recyclables. We will identify the key requirements in the Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Regulations and introduce you to the waste coding and export control system to provide an understanding of how to assess which controls a particular waste type should be exported under and to assess whether the correct controls are in place to export waste legally to different destination countries. A key part of the transfrontier shipment of waste is correctly describing the waste, correctly coding the waste and knowing the level of control the country of destination requires. Non-compliance can lead to the repatriation of containers at a huge cost to UK waste companies or enforcement action and possible prosecution. With the changes brought about by recent POPs developments and how certain wastes are classified across Europe, a number of waste streams which have previously been exported under Article 18 ‘green list’ with Annex VII paperwork, will be required to move under notification controls. We will take the delegates through the difference between Article 18 and notification shipments. There will be an opportunity to ask questions throughout the webinar with delegates then able to email any further questions up to three days afterwards. Delegates will be provided with a copy of the slides and a certificate of attendance.
