The role

As our Senior Operations Advisor, you will join our Collaborative Change Programme team- experts who support councils to meet the Welsh Government’s ambitious Beyond Recycling circular economy strategy. You will work alongside councils helping them design and implement improvements to their recycling services, whether that is rolling out a county-wide service change or tackling a localised problem. You will:

  • work with senior local authority officers and Welsh Government to advise on best practice policies to improve recycling and waste services.
  • support Local Authorities to plan and implement service changes including developing or advising on mobilisation plans which are in line with the authority’s strategy
  • work as a team to monitor and evaluate current service delivery to identify further efficiencies which align with national strategy and best practice
  • work with people at all levels of a council’s waste service and use your influencing skills to get others on board with proposed changes

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for somebody with a strategic mind and hands on experience of implementing improvements to recycling and waste services. You will be able to demonstrate:

  • knowledge of the range of collection and, recycling systems and understanding of Welsh circular economy policy.
  • ability to influence what operational support could be provided to support authorities to improve and deliver an effective and efficient service in line with WG policy.
  • excellent planning and organisational skills with a structured approach to project management and problem solving when delivering recycling and waste services.
  • experience of implementing significant service changes and mobilising new contracts or services including familiarity with systems and software likely to be used
  • a methodical approach to reporting both project successes and potential issues

Please note that this role does include travel as necessary to locations within the UK. You will occasionally spend time away from home overnight. A full driving license is required for this role as you will be visiting remote sites that are not accessible via public transport

Job type: Permanent, full-time

Hybrid working: You will be able to work from home and come into the office to collaborate with your team(s) when required. We have flexible core hours, and we don’t believe in a culture of presenteeism. We will discuss what is important to you during the recruitment process.
