The category is the first specifically related to recycling although the NPS has drawn up a suppliers list in the past for wood pellets for biomass boilers.
Available from late August 2016, the bags framework has six categories ranging from the supply of recycling bags through to the supply of compostable liners for food waste caddies.
Listed for the supply of domestic and commercial refuse bags and recycling bags are: British Polythene, JPK Trade Supplies and Sphere Professional.
For compostable liners, five suppliers are listed: Cromwell Polythene, Sphere Professional, Biobag, Gelpack Excelsior and Office Depot.
One category remains to be resolved and that is for clinical waste bags.
Cromwell
Commenting on publication of the NPS framework for waste disposal bags Cromwell managing director James Lee said the company was pleased to be listed on three categories. “While being appointed to the framework is in itself a significant achievement, we are very much aware that the NPS’s 73 customers are at liberty to award contracts either directly, by undertaking a desktop analysis of framework rates, or to undertake a further competition against their specific requirements.
“Having now been nominated by most of the major frameworks in the UK – and gained significant incremental business as a result – we are confident that with this appointment we can similarly reinforce our strong market position in the Welsh public sector.”
Common spend
Launched in November 2013 and hosted by the Welsh Government, the NPS was established to work on behalf of the wider public sector across Wales.
Its remit is to secure in the region of £1 billion worth of goods and services “in common and repetitive spend”. This represents 20%-30% of the Welsh public sector spend.
