The Multifuel project signs £75m supply deal

Energy from Waste plant the Multifuel project in West Yorkshire has secured a £75m two-year deal for its power outage with SmartestEnergy.

The Multifuel project is based next to the existing Ferrybridge C Power Station and will produce around 600 Gigawatt hours of low carbon electricity a year.

The facility is still in the commissioning stage and is due to be fully operational in the coming months. It will then handle 570,000 tonnes of waste derived fuel annually and produce enough low carbon electricity to power around 160,000 homes.

Multifuel Energy Limited (MEL) is a joint venture between SSE and US-based Wheelabrator Technologies.

MEL director of engineering and operations Tom Maillet said: “This will allow a new supply of low carbon electricity on the national grid at the earliest opportunity.”
