Other confirmed competitors include WRAP, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, Grundon, Cory Environmental and Islington council.
Jointly organised by the University of Northampton and letsrecycle.com, the competition is for mixed gender teams of six and will be played out by six groups, followed by a knockout stage for the best teams.
Valpak are among the tournament's sponsors, along with REgenerist, who will be sponsoring this year's crossbar challenge.
Teams are required to pay a non-refundable fee of £50 for local authorities and £100 for all other organisations to cover a proportion of costs. Closing date for entries is August 15.
Last year, 26 teams competed for the title of Waste World Cup Champions, with Valpak winning through the knock-out stages against the likes of consultancy Mouchel Parkman, London-based Bywaters Waste Management and Blackburn firm Neales Waste Management (see letsrecycle.com story ).
