Biffa signs 2.5 million recycling deal with Peugeot Citron

French car manufacturer Peugeot Citron has signed a three-year with Biffa Waste Services to reduce and recycle waste generated by its UK operation.

The 2.5 million contract will see Biffa aiming to minimise waste produced at three of the firm's sites in Coventry. The deal means Biffa will have to recycle 85% of recoverable waste from the firm's Ryton car assembly plant.

Commenting on the new contract, PSA Peugeot Citron senior buyer Ben Shaw said: “Biffa will provide on-site management systems for the collection of dry, wet and hazardous wastes along with recycling services for paper, cardboard, plastics, wood, glass and scrap metal.”

Mr Shaw added: “We're confident that the systems Biffa has put in place and, through its strategic partnerships with leading materials reprocessors, we can be assured of meeting our strict recycling targets.”

Biffa's contract with Peugeot Citron will see the company taking responsibility for reducing basic waste management costs through improved recycling and reduction strategies for the 3,500 tonnes of waste material generated.

“We're delighted to have been given this opportunity to work with PSA Peugeot Citron,” said Biffa business development manager Alex Mirkovic. “In appointing Biffa, the company can ensure a one-stop-shop for all their waste requirements, making global waste reduction, recovery and recycling strategies easier to implement and aiding the collation of data that is essential in monitoring the achievement of environmental targets.”
