Shred Station wins two National Recycling Awards!

On 8th of December 2021, the National Recycling Awards took place. At these awards, independent shredding service provider, Shred Station, took home two trophies. This included the Independent Operator of the Year award and the Social Value Initiative – Project award.

Winning the Independent Operator of the Year Award demonstrates Shred Station’s commitment to providing exceptional customer service, market innovation, growth and high performance.

The judges commented:

“This clearly showed impressive plans to invest in and grow the business as well as to bring technology and innovation into the sector and react to changes in the market. It had strong employee engagement and a strong commitment to health and safety and improved data capture in this area”.

Shred Station, CarbonNeutral® certified since 2019, also won the Social Value Initiative – Project award. This award recognises the company’s commitment to bringing social benefit to its local communities. This award in particular was given to Shred Station for the company’s contributions to the Frontline Faceshields project. This project was started by a man local to Shred Station’s head office, Colin Breckons. The project’s aim to was to make a few face shields for NHS and care staff during the first wave of the pandemic. At this time there was a national shortage of PPE. Soon, the project’s momentum grew, and within just months had resulted in the creation of 50,000 face shields. Shred Station took the 3D printer waste from this project and granulated it. This meant the waste was diverted from landfill, but more importantly, the granules could be reused in the face shield manufacturing process. This meant even more masks could be produced.

For this award, the judges said the project was a “great example of coming together and rapidly responding to a crisis in an innovative way. It’s a demonstration of social value at its best: not only responding to an initial emergency, but also then solving the secondary problem of waste generated”.

Shred Station’s Marketing Manager, Emily Bridges, comments:

“We are delighted to win both of these highly prestigious awards. Other finalists in these categories have truly impressive business models, and winning both of these awards shows how far we’ve come as a business, not just in the last year but since formation in 2008”.
