Sunersol has received dedicated contract vehicles from Ken Mallinson to aid the collections of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Six of the liveried vehicles are curtain trailers, two of the vehicles are 26 tonne rigid vehicles and there is also one high cube wagon and drag rigid vehicle, articulated tipper trailer, as well as a hook load vehicle with trailers for roll on and roll off container movements nationwide.

Mallinsons offers a full fleet management programme, with regular servicing in line with the transport regulations. The drivers of the vehicles will also be from Mallinsons, operating throughout the UK to collect WEEE waste from civic amenity sites, businesses and retailers throughout the UK on a daily basis.

Each of the vehicles will be able to hold between 10 and 25 tonnes of WEEE depending on the requirements of the customer. The standard curtain trailers with televisions on pallets are able to carry 10 tonnes. The more bespoke tipper trailer will collect television glass and when sent for treatment it will have on average 23 tonnes of glass for recycling.

Finnish conveyor chains arrive in UK

A range of heavy duty conveyor chain specially designed for harsh environments has been unveiled for the UK by Letchworth-based FB Chain Ltd.

Made in Finland, where it has been used to power conveyors working in the demanding timber and wood industries, the chains pins and bushes are welded to the side plate – unlike a standard chain where the pins and bushes are usually riveted in place.
According to FB Chain, the welded construction method results in a chain with a breaking load some 30 per cent higher than the riveted alternative. FB Chain say, this construction offers greater resistance to shock loading and improved fatigue strength.

The company said that the chain has been used widely in Scandinavia for over 50 years and is recommended for the quarrying, construction and recycling industries.
The harsh environment of any quarry, recycling or construction site puts extraordinary pressure on the conveying equipment, said Peter Church, managing director of Letchworth-based FB Chain Ltd.

He added: “Chain conveyor applications are rarely the same with the volume and type of product being conveyed varying considerably. This places many different demands on the choice of conveyor chain and the selection process should be carefully considered.

Jamie Todd, managing director at Leeds Paper Recycling sought robust roto-tipping pallet storage containers to replace his current fleet of injection moulded containers which he felt were being damaged too frequently and causing considerable expense in repair.

After trialing the SE600DW double walled pallet storage container, Leeds Paper Recycling
placed an initial factory order for 100 units, with a further 100 to be supplied. Sanderson claimed that the SE600DW is the only double walled pallet storage container manufactured in the UK and said it provides waste management companies with a robust container for the harsh daily environments within the waste sector.

Tetronics Partners with Solar Industries

Tetronics Ltd, supllier of Direct Current (DC) plasma waste recovery plants for the treatment of hazardous waste and metal recovery, has formed a partnership with Taiwanese firm Solar Applied Materials Technology Corporation. Solar is a leading player in precious metal and rare material refining, to investigate opportunities for utilising Plasma technology, for the extraction of valuable metals from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) sources and industrial/auto catalysts across a number of countries in the Far East.

The supply of the first Plasma plant, for installation in Taiwan, is now underway in order to recover precious metals for subsequent final refining. Tetronics said that the patented Plasma technology will also destroy any hazardous organic material, such as dioxins, which may be contained within the waste material.
