The decision by the Authority was announced yesterday (October 25), around four months after it served an initial enforcement order in July.
International business, Tradebe, acquired Avanti Environmental Group from Stericycle in June, which came six months after also acquiring laboratory waste specialists Lab Waste.

In July, the CMA said it was launching an investigation and issued an enforcement order to see “whether the creation of the merger has resulted or may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition in any market or markets in the UK”.
However, this was revoked earlier this month “in light of the evidence it was received”. The investigation however, continued until yesterday’s announcement that it had been cleared.
Commenting on the news, a spokesperson for Tradebe said: “We are delighted to receive the news that the CMA has cleared the acquisition of Avanti Environmental Group by Tradebe. We strongly believe that the integration of Tradebe and Avanti Environmental Group will deliver real benefits and drive high standards for customers and the market as a whole.”
Avanti
Avanti operates treatment and transfer sites in England and Scotland, supported by a fleet of vehicles. The company employs over 140 people.
Its assets include an advanced transfer station in North West England, waste services in the Scottish Central Belt and the Highlands, niche services for the laboratory and automotive markets, and a plastics recycling division. The services are supported by an established UK infrastructure of transport routes and vehicles.
Tradebe said at the time of the acquisition that the move is part of its strategic business growth plans, which are focussed on “strengthening and enhancing” the company’s position in the UK hazardous waste market.
